Why was AlphaTauri's new name missing from FIA list? The team explain!
- Ludo van Denderen
There were few surprises on the FIA's entry list for the 2024 Formula 1 season. Sauber did announce the name under which the team will continue after the Alfa Romeo era, while Aston Martin said goodbye to one of their name sponsors. A small surprise was the presence of Scuderia AlphaTauri, the Italian team that some time ago announced they will continue under a new name.
Yet on the list brought out by the FIA, Scuderia AlphaTauri was still Scuderia AlphaTauri. However, there was a small change: namely, from 2024 onwards, the chassis was called 'RB', giving the impression that the team will be called Racing Bulls. That is the brand name recently filed for trademark by Red Bull.
'New name not known until 2024
Asked by GPblog, the team reveals that there is still some time to wait for the final name: "At the moment we are not in the position to announce the new team name, so we used this as a sort of “place holder”, waiting for the time in which we will be able to confirm it – likely at the beginning of next year," AlphaTauri said.
Scuderia AlphaTauri are saying goodbye to their name after four seasons, having previously competed in Formula 1 under Toro Rosso. Following the name change, the Italian team will also collaborate more emphatically with Red Bull Racing, from which they buys the necessary parts.
