Sauber set to change team name regularly in 2024: here's why!
- Ludo van Denderen
The word is out: the team known as Alfa Romeo between 2019-2023 will compete in Formula 1 under the official name Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber in 2024 and 2025. Nevertheless, the name under which the team competes may start to vary from Grand Prix to Grand Prix over the next two years, Sauber confirmed to GPblog.
Online gambling group Stake will continue as the title sponsor while streaming company Kick.com will become more involved with the team. That company has acquired the naming rights for the chassis. Incidentally, Stake and Kick.com belong to the same Australian owner but operate independently of each other. However, several countries hosting Formula 1 do not allow an online gambling company to operate as a sponsor. Partly for this reason, Sauber have found an alternative.
'Brands alternate'
"The team name, as per the FIA Entry List published earlier this morning, is Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber," the team informed this site. "The brands will alternate based on legislation and marketing decisions by the team - as we have already done in 2023."
In other words, the team might enter a Grand Prix named Stake F1 Team Sauber, and then a race later be named F1 Team Kick Sauber. Last year, Stake was already the title sponsor of Alfa Romeo. But in 2023, the Kick brand name was already being used in place of Stake at certain races, namely in Australia, Spain, Belgium and Qatar. There was even a separate livery during the Spa race.
