Wheatley wants F1 record back: 'Otherwise I would be lying'

For years, Red Bull Racing were unbeatable when it came to performing the fastest pit stops in Formula 1. Again in 2023, the team of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez won the 'pit stop championship', but Red Bull did lose the record for the fastest stop ever to McLaren.
"I'm totally happy talking about it after a couple of weeks of therapy," joked Jonathan Wheatley to the Talking Bull podcast. "What we saw with the McLaren stuff is an incredibly well-executed pit stop by every single person, all 22 of them, including the driver and hats off to them. They did an amazing job."

At the same time, Red Bull's sporting director leaves no doubt that his team intends to take the record back from the Woking-based team. "Our goal is to keep doing the lowest average times of everyone and at some point it will all click together and yeah, I'd be lying if I said it's not a target to beat it," Wheatley said.
Recently, Red Bull showed off another fine piece of pit stop work. The Austrian F1 team performed a 2.84-second pit stop at its factory in Milton Keynes - in principle just a neat stop, were it not for the fact that it was performed in the dark.
