De Vries unimpressed by criticism: 'Make it a party yourself!'
At the start of 2023, Nyck de Vries was ready to appear in his first full Formula 1 season. Due to underperformance, he was evicted from his car in the middle of the season. He was replaced by Daniel Ricciardo.
De Vries' driving did not impress. The Dutchman was the only driver from the 2023 season to fail to score any points. Ricciardo, who replaced De Vries, eventually gained six more. The good-humoured Australian was also briefly injured during the season when he was replaced by Liam Lawson.
De Vries not impressed
De Vries responded to the criticism he has received. "It is very easy to criticise someone from the bench or with the phone in your hand. I also don't find it necessary to start judging my own performance now. For myself, I don't have to prove anything to anyone anymore," the Dutchman explained in an interview with De Telegraaf.
"It happened like this, it is as it is, and I will continue my career in other classes. In the end, I'm doing it for myself, right? This is my career, and I think motorsport is the most beautiful and fun thing there is. It's my life, I'll make a party of it myself and sail my own course," the decided racing driver revealed.
