The new regulations regarding F1 cars implemented in 2022 were supposed to ensure that the cars would be a lot closer together. And it worked. In 2023, there was a second between P1 and P20 at Q1 of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. In 2021, it was over 2.3 seconds. Whether it will be even closer this season remains to be seen, although Lando Norris is hopeful.

Speaking to the press, including GPBlog, he spoke about the impact of the rules: "I think it was already one of the tightest years from what I remember in terms of regulation for quite a long time. Even though it was dominated probably more than ever, it was also the tightest from first to last for the majority of the year," Norris said. Although he still warns ahead of the season: "Maybe at the beginning of the season, the gaps can open up. Through the year, it's going to get probably tighter again. We still have another year after this of the same regulation. So I'm sure we're in for a couple of years, which will have some very tight racing."

Finally a win for Lando?

Lando Norris is hoping to finally take his first win in 2024. Whereas he had a terrible season start with McLaren, as the year progressed things did start to go very well for the Briton, who is entering his sixth F1 season. On renewing his contract, Norris said he is happy to stay in the papaya colours. "I’ve grown up with McLaren and feel at home here, the team are like family to me."
