Max Verstappen became Formula 1 world champion last season for the third time in a row. In a season in which he managed to win almost all Grands Prix, Gianpiero Lambiase, better known as GP, played an important role. The race engineer is at it again this year and looks back on the first day of the winter test.

"The winter break was fairly short this year but, nonetheless, the amount of work which has gone into the car has been impressive as usual," Lambiase explained. "We came to Bahrain with a few unknowns around a relatively new car, but we have tested most of the fundamentals on day one and got the answers we needed to," he continued.

Verstappen hands over the baton to Perez

Verstappen took his place behind the wheel of the RB20 for the first day of testing in Bahrain. His Mexican teammate Sergio Perez will also take on three blocks of testing. "Now we have a solid base to take onto days two and three, when Checo takes over the car in the morning," GP said.
