Sainz expects emotional farewell with Ferrari: 'Great group of people'
Carlos Sainz is to leave Ferrari at the end of this season. The Spaniard expects an emotional time towards the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season.
A lot has changed over the winter break for Carlos Sainz. This included news that he has lost his seat at the Italian racing team to Lewis Hamilton and that his performance coach is leaving for Max Verstappen's camp. So far in the media, Sainz has reacted very professionally to the news.
Sainz expects an emotional farewell to Ferrari
Nevertheless, the 29-year-old Ferrari driver indicates that he does expect some emotions towards the end of the season. "On the emotional side there's not been a lot because there are 24 races ahead of us. I guess the last couple of races will be emotional. Especially because I will leave behind a great group of people with whom I've worked very well with. I've met some very good human beings in Ferrari. I’ve also met a lot of Tifosi around the world who made me feel at home from the beginning. We will leave the emotional part until the end. Until then, head down and try to do the best possible job. I know from Fred, they will give me full support. We will push flat out together and have a nice year."
At the moment, it is not yet clear where the Spaniard will drive next year. He has been widely linked with a seat at Audi, but they do not enter Formula 1 until 2026. So Sainz will have to bridge a year. What is positive for him is that many drivers' contracts are expiring, and the Spaniard is a popular and reliable driver. So there will hopefully still be a spot available for him in 2025.
