F1 Academy race winner Pin loses out on win after post-race penalty
Race winner Doriane Pin has been penalised after the finish of the second F1 Academy race. She was handed a 20-second time penalty, promoting second-placed Abbi Pulling to the top step of the podium. Dutch Maya Weug was promoted from P3 to P2.
Dominant Pin disqualified after offence
The second season of the F1 Academy has started in Saudi Arabia. This year, the women are supported by Formula 1 teams and also drive on the same race weekends as F1 drivers. The first weekend was dominated by Doriane Pin, with two pole positions and two wins.
However, she has to hand in her second win. Mercedes representative and Prema driver Pin caused a remarkable moment at the end of the second race. After she finished, she drove on fully assuming she had one more lap to go. As she crossed the finish line twice, the stewards launched an investigation.
The result of that investigation was that she lost her first place from Saturday. This was because she kept going full throttle and crossed the finish line again, despite the stewards waving red flags to get her attention. This landed her a drive-through penalty, which was converted into a 20-second time penalty.
