Heavy criticism of Horner: 'He comes off as pathetic'
- Ludo van Denderen
Last week in Saudi Arabia, Christian Horner spoke out: The Red Bull Racing team principal hopes the focus will be on racing from now on, after he was cleared of the charge of transgressive behaviour towards a female colleague. Yet this does not seem to be a complete end to the matter. Indeed, the complaint is considering reporting Horner to the police.
Earlier today, GPblog was able to reveal that Red Bull GmbH's independent investigation was not as independent as pretended after all. The lawyer who conducted the investigation turned out to have come from the quiver of Red Bull's Thai shareholder, who is fully in Horner's pocket.
Wauters highly critical of Horner
Meanwhile, the complainant has been suspended by Red Bull Racing for allegedly being 'unfair'. Kris Wauters, the F1 commentator of PlaySports in Flanders thinks this is 'very unfortunate'. Wauters, who also forms the band Clouseau with brother Koen, is adamant in his assessment of Horner. Speaking to Belgian broadcaster Sporza, he says: "I have all read the leaked Whatsapp messages. I mainly think Horner comes out of there as a pathetic little man who is supposed to be happily married and yet always throws out his fishing line to bring in another fish."
So although Horner has been cleared of the accusations, Wauters believes Horner still crossed a line. "These are things that are totally wrong at that level. The woman in question asks several times to quit. She is his personal assistant and she wants to do that job. You can feel her wringing her hands: I have to stay friendly to my boss, but it's not OK what's happening."
