It is every Formula 1 driver's dream; to win a world title. So, too, for Sergio Perez. In the press conference in Australia, the Mexican says he is in much better shape than last year and seems to be hoping for a world championship fight.

Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez have a really good car. So it should be possible for Perez to at least fight for the title. The only problem he has is his teammate. This is because Verstappen seems to be performing at his very best at the moment and is unstoppable.

Perez thinks he has improved

Still, the Mexican is hopeful ahead of the Australian Grand Prix. "I think we are in a much better place in terms of understanding. When the weekend is not going your way, we're getting back and are a lot better at understanding what things work for us and what doesn't."

The point where Perez fell short last season was mainly qualifying. There he was just qualifying too far down on the grid. "We've been exploring a lot, especially towards the end of last year. We were exploring so much with the set-up of the car that we got to a point where I think right now we really know which directions and which set-ups work for us."

In any case, the 34-year-old Red Bull driver himself feels he is in a much better position. "I think we are in a much better position. Also we are starting the weekend a lot better, we're making a lot more progress during the weekend. So overall, I feel a lot more together with the car, with the team, for the rest of the year compared to last year."
