Bernie Ecclestone admits his decisions may have hampered Alonso's career
In Fernando Alonso's final Grand Prix weekend, Bernie Ecclestone talks about the Spaniard's career. After going through his favourite memories, Ecclestone admits some of his decisions may well have hampered Alonso's career.
Ecclestone is at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as his Formula 1 loyalties remain. In a long interview with Spanish site, El Mundo, he reveals what he thinks about Alonso's talents.
"They have been many because during all these years he always showed his talent as a driver. It is hard to choose one in particular because it would be like reducing all those capacities in one details and that, in some way, supposes an injustice," Ecclestone said.
"Yesterday, I heard him speak with great excitement about the 2012 Valencia GP, but I do not remember that anymore. I prefer to say his entire career."
In recent years, Alonso has found himself in the second half of the grid due to recent troubles at McLaren. Pundits and fans suggest that Alonso would have won many more than two world championships had he been in a competitive time. Ecclestone says he takes part of the blame.
"I know Fernando's skills and I know that if he had been given a winning car, more competitive, he would never have left. I may have made wrong decisions when choosing equipment, but that does not prevent me from seeing him suffer so much at the back of the grid," Ecclestone said.
