Stewards passed verdict: penalty for Alonso after role in crash Russell?
Fernando Alonso and George Russell battled for sixth place in the race in the closing stages of the Australian Grand Prix. The latter crashed hard on the final lap, following an unexpected manoeuvre by the Aston Martin driver in front. The stewards scrutinised the incident and passed judgement.
The stewards have handed Alonso a 20-second penalty for his role in Russell's crash. They came to that conclusion after both drivers were heard for almost an hour. As a result, Alonso now finished in eighth position at the Australian GP.
