Verstappen thinks it makes sense for Ferrari to let Sainz go
For Lewis Hamilton to join Ferrari from 2025, Carlos Sainz must make way. Max Verstappen finds the team's decision to let Sainz go more than logical, he said in Japan.
Despite Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc often not being far apart in qualifying and in the race, the team has made the decision to let Sainz leave to make way for Hamilton. Max Verstappen thinks it makes sense to make way for Hamilton. "If Lewis (Hamilton) wants to go somewhere else, as seven-time champion, then it makes sense that you can afford something more and it makes sense that one of them has to go."
Verstappen finds it logical that Sainz has to leave Ferrari
It is also logical for the Dutchman that the choice then fell on Sainz. "I think that one was a reasonable buy-in for the team. When of course you have been working with Charles [Leclerc] for a long time. Who of course is also happy with a new deal. That's unfortunately then how it often works."
Incidentally, the three-time world champion is little worried about where Sainz will end up. "But of course that will happen. It's now trying to make the right choice about where you want to be."
