Half of the Formula 1 grid picked up just 12 points in five Grands Prix and a sprint race, while 546 points have already been distributed. The smaller Formula 1 teams hope that a new points system will soon be introduced. Are you for or against this proposal?

Under the new proposal, positions 11 and 12 will also score points. Positions 1 to 7 in a Grand Prix result will score as many points as they currently do, 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8 and 6, respectively. From position number 8, things are going to change should enough team bosses vote in favour of the plan in the F1 Commission meeting next week.

P8 to P10 score 4 points, 2 points and 1 point in the current set-up. The proposal:

P8 - 5 points
P9 - 4 points
P10 - 3 points
P11 - 2 points
P12 - 1 point

Frederic Vasseur (Ferrari) will vote for the plan, but Christian Horner (Red Bull Racing) does not yet know. At least the smaller teams hope to get enough team bosses on board.

Visa Cash App RB and Haas F1 hope for approval

Visa Cash App RB team boss Laurent Mekies says: "It's almost impossible to explain to the partners that we are fighting for P11 while doing nothing. If we look at the reliability of the cars, we don't normally get into the points. I don't think that's good," said the Italian, who came over from Ferrari this winter to succeed Franz Tost.

At Haas F1, too, they would like to see more points handed out soon. "What would be a negative side? We have teams without points now, I don't think that's good for the sport. If there are points for P11 and P12, then there is less chance of teams not scoring points. It also makes it clearer for the fans and it motivates the teams," said the Japanese team boss.
