Perez warns teams who want to sign Newey: 'Will require people around him'
- Ludo van Denderen
With Adrian Newey leaving Red Bull, the big question is what the designer will do as the next step in his career. Aston Martin are keen to bring in the designer, but Ferrari seem to have the best chances. When Newey finally closes the Red Bull door behind him at the end of the first quarter of '25, he could go straight to work for another team - if Newey wants to.
In any case, Newey's arrival would come in time for the development of the cars for 2026. Sergio Perez, currently a Red Bull driver and benefiting from Newey's work, expects Newey to make an immediate and huge impact on a new employer. "Definitely," stated the Mexican. "Adrian, with the experience he has, obviously he has contributed a lot to the Red Bull philosophy. I assume he will cause an immediate impact, whatever he goes, whatever he does."
'Newey is more than a designer'
Perez then lists the points that would make Newey good: "He's a very clever guy, very hard worker. And he's much more than a designer. He can influence even strategies, set up. He could have that influence on a race weekend. So to have him around on race weekends was great."
It brings Perez once again to the conclusion: "He's obviously a very strong individual guy that wherever he goes, he will cause an immediate impact. But, obviously, it's a whole group of people that he will require to have around him as well."
