Norris on Newey's exit: 'Adrian's not the only smart one in Red Bull'

Adrian Newey at McLaren? It does not seem realistic at the moment, but Lando Norris can only be happy to see the top designer leaving Red Bull Racing. With that said, catching up with Red Bull should be possible with the current team of engineers, said Norris.

What are McLaren's prospects if Newey helps build an F1 car from next year? "I mean, what would he bring? I have no idea. I wish I knew. I mean, anyone who's going to have Adrian on their team is going to (succeed). We've got to move forward, and he's got a mind like not many others do. So it would be an honour, I think, for anyone, any team to have Adrian."

The 24-year-old Briton knows how much Newey has achieved in Formula 1. "Red Bull have been the most consistent team over the last probably, what, 10, 15 years. So, you know, they've been more consistent than Mercedes, more consistent than Ferrari, more consistent than anyone almost. So, yeah, it would always be a great addition. You would happily say welcome."

McLaren is functioning well anyway, says Norris. "I think we're in a very good position now with who we've got. I'm very happy. I think, you know, if you ask Zak (Brown), if you ask Andrea (Stella), we'd say we're very happy with the team we've got now. So, at the same time, we have a year where we really want to try and push and catch Red Bull. It would be great if we did it without Adrian, Just to prove how good of a team we have at the time being. If he wants to walk our way, we would definitely never say no." Norris said.

Red Bull without Newey

Still, Norris notes that Red Bull is made up of more than just Newey. "If everything that is on the Red Bull is down to him, then, of course, we'll say yes. But I'm sure Adrian's not the only smart one in Red Bull, you know. They're good at everything that they do. Red Bull is not just good because they have a good car, but they're good at everything. They're normally the most reliable car. They're normally the best performing car. Best pit stops. This is not all down to Adrian. It's not like they're going to lose him and suddenly struggle. I think they're still a very good team that are going to continue to perform very well."
