Vasseur shares his expectations for Hamilton's arrival
From next season, Lewis Hamilton will drive for Ferrari. Many fans of the British driver are already looking ahead to the moment he will don a red-and-yellow suit for the first time. Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur talks to l'Équipe about what he expects the seven-time world champion to bring to the team.
The record-breaking eighth world title: it is Hamilton's ultimate goal. The Briton missed out on the record in 2021 after a chaotic final stage of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Since that race, Hamilton has not won a Grand Prix with Mercedes, so he was eager to make the switch to Ferrari.
Vasseur on his high hopes for Hamilton
The future will show whether an eighth world title is actually a possibility at Ferrari. Vasseur does think that Hamilton's arrival is also going to be positive for the team: "Even for Charles [Leclerc, Hamilton's future teammate], having Lewis there will be very useful. He is a monster in terms of organisation and approaching the race. He will raise the level of our demands and preparation."
The Ferrari team boss continued: "I feel he [Hamilton] wants to win so badly. Lewis is an excellent motivator. It's not just a question of setting a faster lap time. It isalso about knowing we have 1,500 people who want to compete because he is there, because he pushes, because he will not settle for the first best answer he gets."
