This is why McLaren is not interested in Adrian Newey
The fact that Adrian Newey, (former) chief designer at Red Bull, has announced his departure is causing quite a stir in the Formula 1 world. McLaren owner Zak Brown, however, does not seem interested in signing the British engineer. Brown is delighted with his team's current direction.
"Our plans are keep doing what we are doing, I’m really happy with everything that Andrea [Stella], the whole technical team are doing," Brown said in Miami on Sky Sports' broadcast. He continued: "I think they are showing that they are putting good performance on the car. So staying on the course, keep trying to get closer and winning some races and ultimately going for the championship."
Ferrari are the 'hot rumour'
The McLaren frontman dare not comment on Newey's future, but he acknowledges that a transfer to Ferrari seems most plausible. "Well your guess is as good as mine," McLaren's CEO believes. "I know Adrian pretty well, he will take a little bit of time, doesn’t look like whatever he does, he can’t start there tomorrow. But Ferrari seems to be the hot rumour, let’s go with that one."
