Excited Ricciardo grabs P4 in Miami: 'Great, we belong at the front!'
Daniel Ricciardo will start Saturday's sprint race in Miami from P4. The much-criticised Visa Cash App RB (VCARB) driver drove to the fourth fastest time in the third part of the sprint shootout. Ricciardo's team radio after hearing that he had achieved P4 spoke volumes, with the Australian sounding very elated.
Ricciardo very happy with P4 in Miami
That Ricciardo's P4 felt fantastic throughout the garage was evident in the engineer's reaction. "Oh mate, I'm so happy for you," he told the VCARB driver over the team radio. Ricciardo feels the P4 does justice to the team's work. "Great. So nice, we belong at the front. I'm so happy for everyone," the former Red Bull driver said.
Ricciardo will start alongside Max Verstappen's teammate Sergio Perez at the start of the sprint race. The 34-year-old driver from Perth will therefore only have Perez, Charles Leclerc and Verstappen ahead of him in the sprint race in Miami. Ricciardo has yet to score a point this season, but that could change. Teammate Yuki Tsunoda got no further than P15 in SQ2.
