Max Verstappen starts the sprint race in Miami from the first starting spot. The Dutchman needs to keep off Charles Leclerc at the start and has teammate Sergio Perez right behind him.

Verstappen was the fastest man in the sprint shootout on Friday. Verstappen outpaced Leclerc by a tenth, while Leclerc was in turn faster than Perez. The biggest surprise was Daniel Ricciardo, who managed to drive his Visa Cash App RB car to fourth on the grid.

Sprint qualifying was a big disappointment for the Mercedes drivers. George Russell and Lewis Hamilton both failed to make it through to the final qualifying session and therefore start the sprint race from 11th and 12th place respectively. Only the top eight get points, so the two Brits have a lot of work to do.

Valtteri Bottas and Alexander Albon also have to work hard. Bottas received a three-place grid penalty for interfering with Oscar Piastri and therefore starts from P19. Albon will start the sprint race from the pit lane as the team modified parts on his car under parc fermé rules.
