Red Bull technical director confident in team without Newey
- Sandy van Wijngaarden
Adrian Newey, Red Bull Racing's top designer, will leave the team entirely at the start of 2025, after almost two decades of loyal service. But the team's technical director Pierre Waché is not too worried about his departure.
Just a few months ago, it seemed impossible, but Adrian Newey will leave the Austrian racing stable. The top designer, jointly responsible for all of Red Bull Racing's success, is leaving. Where Newey will go is not yet clear, but the Briton himself has already hinted at a move to another Formula 1 team.
Waché trusts Red Bull without Newey
Red Bull technical director Pierre Waché appreciates Newey for who he is and what he has done for the team, but he also puts into perspective that the car is not made by one person. "We are in a competitive environment. We say they are working hard to catch us, we are working hard to stay ahead. And anyway, before, it was a team effort to deliver this car. Not one person delivered this car."
Waché tempers statements that after Newey's departure, Red Bull's performance will start to decline. "I would say yes, we are prepared to work as a team to deliver a car," the Frenchman continued. ''If one person did, it's a shame. But, and even more, this type of person, like Adrian, is important to me. But we are prepared for that, for sure. And I think it's something we have to prove around the year and next year," said the Red Bull Racing technical director.
