Perez explains why Imola has been so difficult for Red Bull
The Grand Prix weekend in Imola has looked challenging so far for Red Bull, who struggled during all three free practice sessions. In qualifying, whilst Max Vertsappen was able to secure pole position, his teammate Sergio Perez failed to make it into Q3. Now, the Mexican has blamed the kerbs for the difficulties Red Bull have faced this weekend.
Perez, who qualified 11th on Saturday, shared that the kerbs are to blame for the poor performance. "I think mainly one of the issues is the kerbing. You have a lot of kerbs around here and just balance, you need that confidence on the entry to be able to attack those medium speed corners, those braking corners," Perez told the media in Imola, including GPblog.
"I think if the balance is a little bit off, it can be very costly."
'It's just a very tricky track'
Although his teammate has also struggled this weekend, Perez has certainly suffered to a greater extent. The team even introduced a range of upgrades this weekend which many expected would make the championship-winning team even stronger. Nevertheless, it seems as though Perez remains disappointed with his performance after falling further behind Verstappen: "I think it's just a very tricky track."
"I think it was good to see Max did a lot of progress, and I felt from my side that the car was getting better, so. But unfortunately, we just didn't get to show it." He added: "It's a shame when I see Max up there we definitely had the pace to do a lot more today."
