Verstappen takes double victory at Imola: 'I'm very happy about that'
- Cas van de Kleut
It may have been a Formula 1 race weekend, but that did not stop Max Verstappen from also being in action on behalf of his Esports team Team Redline. The triple world champion competed in two races in Imola, both of which he also managed to win. After the race, the Dutchman talked about his weekend behind the sim.
Verstappen's sim racing team, Team Redline, was in action during the virtual Nürburgring 24, with the Red Bull driver taking part himself. In the end, Verstappen's team crossed the finish line first. With the win at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix added to that, he picked up a double victory.
Verstappen on his double victory in Imola
When Verstappen was asked if he had scored a double victory during a Formula 1 weekend before, he replied, "Well, not in a day. And definitely not also a virtual. But yeah, that's great. I mean, we prepared a lot for it also. So, of course, I'm very happy with that result as well."
Verstappen often takes part in sim races on behalf of Team Redline. He also takes his laptop to race weekends, with fans often catching him racing until late. Though, this was not the case in Imola. When asked whether he did any late night stints ahead of Sunday's race he said: "Yeah, well, I mean, evening stints, not in the night."
