- Renate van Holst
Porsche become the third major manufacturer alongside Nissan and Jaguar to commit to the Formula E championship, extending their involvement to at least 2030. This means the carmaker will also be on the grid when the next-generation cars, GEN4, make their debut in 2026/2027.
Porsche stays in Formula E
Porsche joined Formula E during its sixth season and has taken eight victories alongside 16 podium finishes and six pole positions.
"From the outset, we have regarded our involvement in Formula E as a long-term commitment," says Michael Steiner, member of the Executive Board for Research and Development at Porsche AG. "The evolution of racing cars shows how much development potential there is in electric cars. Going forward, we want to extract even more knowledge from Formula E that we can transfer to our road sports cars. We look forward to further shaping the championship and contributing to the advancement of electric driving."
Formula E cars are now in their third generation. These cars have a power output of up to 350 kW and a top speed of over 300 km/h. The upcoming GEN3 Evo will improve on this for the next step. When the GEN4 cars are on the grid, the cars will have power up to 600 kW and regenerative power up to 700 kW.
"Like Formula E, we want to add innovative technologies and more sustainability to motorsport and be at the cutting edge of new developments," says Thomas Laudenbach, vice president of Porsche Motorsport. Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E is also very excited about the extended cooperation between the championship and the car manufacturer.
"Their commitment to the highly anticipated GEN4 era not only pushes the boundaries of technology and performance, but also sets a new standard for excellence in worldwide motorsport."
