Rare delight for Lewis Hamilton in 2024: 'The best day we've had on track'
Lewis Hamilton had another positive Friday in his Mercedes W15. The Brit topped the timesheets in FP1, and finished FP2 in second place, behind home hero Charles Leclerc. Speaking to Sky Sports after FP2, Hamilton said he feels good about his opportunities this weekend.
The W15 hasn't been the easiest car to drive this season. Mercedes sits fourth in the constructors, 75 points behind third-place McLaren. Days like this, however, fill the Silver Arrows with confidence going forward.
Hamilton said: "It's been a good day. The best day we've had on track. I think the car was really positive, I'm really enjoying driving, this track is amazing. The grip has been quite good. I think we still have some challenges with the balance, but it was looking strong," said the seven-time world champion.
The Mercedes is 'more enjoyable' to drive than last few years
Hamilton feels confident in his W15, which has been a rarity in 2024 so far. He added: "It's a more enjoyable ride than we had in previous last two years, particularly. I think the second session, I don't know whether we improved or not. Definitely the long runs, we still have a lot of work to do overnight to try and make sure that we can make it to the end of the race."
"We just need to improve in the long run pace and the graining," says Hamilton, who concluded by saying he is 'absolutely' positive for tomorrow's qualifying, one of the most important sessions on the calendar.
