Leclerc thought of his father during Monaco GP: 'This was our dream'

Charles Leclerc finally managed to win his home race on Sunday. After the Grand Prix, he was emotional, partly because he reflected on the dream he and his father had from when the Ferrari driver was young.
In 2017, Hervé, Charles Leclerc's father, passed away. The Monegasque previously shared an extraordinary story, in which he told his father on his deathbed that he had signed a contract for Ferrari for 2019. At the time, that was not the case, but Leclerc's lie did eventually come true.
Leclerc shares emotional story about his father
During the race, the moments he had experienced with his father haunted Leclerc's mind: "It was very much in my mind, as I said. I think in every race I have done, there's been not once where I was thinking about this personal stuff inside the car, because you've got to stay on it. Maybe Baku in 2017, obviously everything was still very fresh for me so it was difficult to manage mentally."
Leclerc continued: "It's probably the first time in my career that it happened again while driving where you've got these flashbacks of all these moments that we have spent together, all the sacrifices that he has done for me to to get to where I am."
"As I said earlier, it's not only my dream, but it was both of our dreams to get there, and obviously, my whole family was supporting and was obviously dreaming of that moment which makes it even more special. But yeah, that was, again, as I said earlier, probably the moment that was the most difficult to manage today," Leclerc concluded.
