For the third season in a row, Mercedes cannot seem to find a solution for their problems, and they are far behind the success they had from 2014 until 2021, winning the Constructors' Championship every year during that time. Their driver, George Russell believes that by Silverstone, the Silver Arrows can get to the front again, and is confident ahead of the 2026 regulation changes.

"Always really excited to go to Silverstone, but I think we are on a really good trajectory at the moment. We are bringing upgrades really quickly to the car, which we are confident will bring performance," Russell began about how development stands at Mercedes.

"Historically, we have always gone well around Silverstone as well and I think now we are entering the European season things are a little bit more consistent, less Sprint races as well," Russell explained about by when could Mercedes close to gap to Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari.

Mercedes currently stand in no man's land in the Constructors' Standings this season in fourth place. The German team are clearly ahead of Aston Martin, but have a healthy gap to the top three teams at the moment.

"We know from the past we are really good at building throughout the season so we are hoping by Silverstone we are going to be in that fight with the guys in front of us," the one-time Grand Prix winner added.

Russell confident in 2026 engine

The British driver also believes their 2026 engine will be up there for the regulation change. "I mean ordinarily 2026 seems like a long time away but in the world of Formula 1 it's going to be here tomorrow and the team are feeling really confident for this era. I think you know the experience of the team have had, the success in 2014 with the new powertrain, and then obviously the time in Formula E, the work that was done with the Hypercar. There are a lot of individuals within HPP who have got so much experience with this future technology."

He continued: "So I think that leaves us in a really great place to have a great engine. And the work Petronas are doing on the fuel as well is looking really strong. So on the engine side, I think we're feeling very confident for that era."
