Is Sergio Perez extension justified? 'He's shown he's ready', says sponsor

Sergio Perez's contract extension has been well received in Mexico. Earlier, media in the Red Bull driver's home country said the 'soap opera' of the extension has 'finally' come to an end. Carlos Slim Domit, a major sponsor of Perez, owns Mexican companies Telcel and Telemex. He told Claro Sports he was happy with the two-year deal.
A two-year deal means Perez will drive for Red Bull until the end of 2026. This will see him experience the first year of the new engine regulations at the Austrian team.
Perez's sponsor on his contract extension at Red Bull
Slim Domit has long been involved in Perez's career. He is of course content with the decision: "I think it is good news. For Red Bull, it's also about continuing with the consistency of recent years. That is very important and I think they have made a good decision."
The Mexican businessman argues that Perez has been valuable since driving at Red Bull: "He has shown it since his arrival, since that first year when he helped Max [Verstappen] win the world title. He has always had consistency, even if there were some difficult moments during some races, like this year in Monaco. He is a driver who always comes back. He is competitive, he is in the fight and he is undoubtedly someone who is a good addition both on and off the track.
"When the car is competitive, Checo has always shown he is ready. This year, outside the last few races, he is a lot closer to the times [of Verstappen] from the first practice sessions. Before, it took him longer to get into the rhythm as he adjusted to the car's set-up, which is better for Max's style. I think great races are coming up for him, although we are also seeing progress from other teams this year, such as Ferrari and McLaren. There they are also showing consistency and there is no doubt it is going to be a very competitive championship this year," Slim Domit concluded.
