Croft is very confident Carlos Sainz will move to this team in 2025
Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft believes that Carlos Sainz will drive for Williams next season, as James Vowles' Williams project could easily entice the three-time Grand Prix winner. Sainz was left without a seat at Ferrari when the Italian team announced a contract extension for Charles Leclerc and the arrival of Lewis Hamilton in 2025.
Vowles 'selling a dream' at Williams
On the Sky Sports F1 podcast, David Croft explained exactly why Sainz would want to drive for the British marque. Williams' team principal James Vowles is a key factor, and his project could easily draw Sainz to the team. "Vowles is selling a dream, he sold a dream to Alex Albon, and I think Alex has a lot of faith in that Mercedes power unit for 2026," explained Croft.
"Can he get Carlos Sainz? Well, the answer to that is yes, he can. It's not about money, I've spoken to the Sainz camp on this one, and he's got a decision. Audi or Williams. There's no deadline from Audi that has been reported, he didn't have to make his mind up by the end of May. It's about where Carlos sees the vision for the future," said the Sky Sports F1 commentator.
'Hand on heart' Sainz will go to Williams, says Croft:
"Hand on heart, I think he'll go to Williams. I think that is where Carlos Sainz is heading. He can see what's in front of him with Williams. He probably can't see the Audi vision at the moment because there's not much to tell, they haven't taken over at Sauber but they are building power units and that's it. If James Vowles gets it then fair play to him," said Croft.
Croft concluded by saying the pairing of Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon would be an extremely strong lineup which could lead the team into the future. Valtteri Bottas has previously been linked to Williams as well.
