Villeneuve slams the decision not to ban this driver in Canada

Magnussen has demonstrated his risky driving on numerous occassions this season, racking up a total of 10 superlicense penalty points. He is just two penalty points away from an automatic race ban. Villeneuve looks back on the incident and slams Magnussen. "We are in F1 here, not Formula 4 where a 15 year-old might not have that understanding yet. The utter lack of comprehension on Magnussen’s part befuddles me," the former Canadian driver told Best Online Poker Sites.

Magnussen started at the back of the grid, after both Haas drivers were disqualified due to stewards discovering irregularities with the drag reduction system on the rear wings of both cars. In the first lap of the race, Magnussen's overtake attempt left him colliding with Perez and Hulkenberg, ending all three drivers' races. "The fact he was not even penalised shows that the system is not neutral," said Villeneuve. "If he had been penalised he would have been banned for one race. They decided not to. Why have the rule in place? It was massive. It was dangerous. It was ridiculous." 

The Haas driver must avoid picking up any more penalty points this season to avoid a race ban. So far this season, he collected three points for his collision with Alex Albon in Saudi Arabia, and a further two for a collision with Yuki Tsunoda in China. He then collected the remaining five across the Miami weekend, with two for leaving the track and gaining advantages on numerous occassions during the sprint race, and an additional three for causing a collision with Logan Sargeant during the Grand Prix. The Dane is also out of contract at the end of the season, and it is not yet known whether he will be renewing with his team.
