Gasly stays quiet for long after question on Ocon: Press erupt in laughter
Esteban Ocon is leaving Alpine at the end of the season and, as a result, the 'partnership' between Pierre Gasly and his compatriot appears to be coming to an end. The silence after a question in the press conference spoke volumes.
After the incident between the two Alpine drivers in Monaco, it was no surprise that Ocon and Alpine will part ways at the end of 2024. It has been known from day one that Ocon and Gasly are not friends. They used to be, but the friendship broke down in their youth after things got too competitive in karting.
In the press conference, Gasly is asked if the news of Ocon's departure will affect his future. "To be honest absolutely nothing. At the minute it's quite clear the position I'm in. For the rest of the season, I think it's going to be very good for my future. At the moment I have nothing really to announce and then you guys will know in due time."
The partnership between Gasly and Ocon
Ocon is mentioned within the headquarters at few teams. While his teammate seems to have options at Audi and Haas, Gasly has the problem that his current season is not anything to write home about. However, with a few good races, the tide could turn in no time.
However, after two years of 'working together', the driver duo Ocon and Gasly will also come to an end at the end of 2024. A duo that has been much discussed from day one given their relationship. Gasly therefore has to think for a long time when asked what teammate Ocon has been like.
The long silence causes laughter in the press room, after which Gasly nevertheless calmly tries to bring his answer politically correct. "It's been… I'm just taking time to think because I know you guys gonna take every single word that comes out so it's a long story between Esteban and myself."
''So far in the last year and a half we managed to work and cooperate very professionally so I think this is important to mention. It hasn't always been easy as you would imagine from two very competitive drivers but considering the story between I think it's been good. So yes, I will say I'll stick to these lines."
