Kevin Magnussen experienced another crash in Monaco, this time with Sergio Perez and his own teammate Nico Hulkenberg. Besides costing the Haas team an awful lot of money, the Dane also has ten penalty points but got away without any from that first lap shunt. Yet Magnussen tries not to think about that too much.

For every offence or penalty, an F1 driver receives penalty points. Once they reach 12 points, the driver is denied participation in the next race. For Kevin Magnussen, meanwhile, the counter stands at ten and these points will not expire until next season. All this damage is costing the team a lot of money and the budget ceiling is getting closer.

Magnussen tries to keep his cool

Ahead of the Grand Prix weekend in Canada, the Dane is trying not to worry too much about this. ''I think you need to be careful not to overthink it. You have to reset yourselves and not keep putting stones in your rucksack. You need to empty it and start on the weekend and just go with a clear mind. That's what I try to do. And I think that's the best approach. Otherwise, you carry that weight of all your past and it's better to just reset.''

Magnussen says he has no different approach in the run-up to an F1 weekend than in previous years. ''I think the most important thing is that you have to be prepared. The most important thing in tough times is to actually just keep positive and keep calm. I think in the past, certainly when I was younger, I would maybe get more stressed about things and feel the pressure more. Whereas now I can put that aside a little better and just get in the car and drive to my best ability,'' the Haas driver said.
