Marko has confidence in Verstappen, but not Perez
- Sandy van Wijngaarden
The weekend in Canada is not one that is going smoothly for Red Bull Racing. While Sergio Perez has to start from 16th place, Max Verstappen did manage to qualify in second place. Helmut Marko is confident in the Dutchman's abilities ahead of the race.
Ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, Red Bull advisor spoke briefly to Viaplay. The 80-year-old said he has all the confidence in Verstappen. ''I think it’s perfect Verstappen weather. Because he's the only driver who doesn't need any adaption. He goes out and he's immediately fast."
Marko has little faith in Perez
Marko said the RB20 is set for both dry and rainy weather. ''After qualifying it's parc ferme so you can't change the setup. But I think downforce-wise, it's not a special rain setup but it's quite good for the rain. It's all depending on the right call at the right time. And then the right tyres on the car."
The competition has surprised the Red Bull advisor. ''You must find the right mixture. Before the weekend, we thought Ferrari is our main competitor. Now, all of a sudden, Mercedes is very strong. They are, top speed-wise, quicker than us. That shows that they are not expecting rain. And McLaren seems to be in between somewhere. For Perez, the Austrian has few expectations. ''Yes, but he starts on P16. And rain is not his favourite climate, I would say," said Marko.
