Hamilton is frustrated with his own performance in Canada

Lewis Hamilton has been extremely self-critical about his performance at the Canadian Grand Prix. Hamilton believes he had a car good enough to win this weekend, but his own performance cost him in Montreal. In the end, Hamilton finished the race in P4 despite holding the podium places in the closing stages.

Hamilton fumes at himself

Hamilton moved ahead of Russell after the younger Brit made a mistake. But the seven-time world champion didn't capitalise on the situation as he had to watch his teammate make the overtake back on him. This comes after seeing Russell secure pole position on Saturday, while Hamilton was only good enough for P7.

"Over the weekend, it was a really poor performance from myself. Some other things came into it yesterday, but mostly myself. And then today, just one of the worst races that I've driven, just lots of mistakes. But of course, if I qualified better, I would have been in a much better position. So it is what it is. I will go back to the drawing board," Hamilton told Sky Sports after the race.

Mercedes had a car that could fight with McLaren this weekend. With Ferrari well off the pace and Sergio Perez failing to escape from Q1, Mercedes had chances that they couldn't fully take advantage of.

"It's becoming a car we can fight with, which is a positive going into the next part of the season. If I get my head on right, I'll get better results at some stage. I think this weekend the car was capable of winning. But we'll take the points and keep going. We'll keep trying," Hamilton concluded.
