Payback for Verstappen after safety car moment with Norris

Max Verstappen can smile again in Formula 1. The Red Bull driver had a great race, resulting in a victory. A safety car eventually helped the Dutchman to victory. Verstappen claims it is payback for an earlier moment this season.

Lando Norris was leading the Grand Prix until a safety car arrived due to a crash by Logan Sargeant. While Verstappen had the opportunity to make an immediate pit stop, this was not the case for the McLaren driver. The Briton had already passed the pit lane. As a result, he got stuck behind a slow-moving safety car. Norris dropped back to P3 and Verstappen took over the lead.

Earlier this season, in Miami, Norris actually benefited from a safety car. At the Miami Grand Prix, the Briton was leading because everyone behind him had already stopped. When there was a crash down the field, the safety car came out. This then held up Verstappen and the rest, ensuring Norris a free pit stop. As a result, the McLaren driver eventually won the Grand Prix.

Verstappen speaks of payback after safety car

Asked after the Grand Prix whether today's safety car situation was payback for what happened earlier in Miami, Verstappen replied: "Of course, it sometimes works for you, and sometimes it works against you. This time it was working for us. So I guess in that sense, it's 1-1 now this year. But yeah, that's racing. It's a part of it as well."
