Verstappen enjoys more exciting Grands Prix: 'Every little detail counts now'
- Cas van de Kleut
Max Verstappen had to work hard for it, but he managed to win for the sixth time in 2024. The past few weeks have been anything but easy for Red Bull Racing, but the Dutchman kept his cool in the chaotic Canadian Grand Prix. After the race, Verstappen reacts to the competition, which has moved considerably closer in recent times.
Verstappen discusses problems with RB20
Red Bull's problems mainly emerge on circuits that are bumpy and where it is difficult not to have to use the kerbs. When Verstappen is asked if the RB20 will be weakened in other areas by fixing the problems, the Dutchman answered, "No, I really think that we can solve this without influencing any other part of the car. Today, it's more like, ‘What kerb riding?’, because I felt that it was non-existent in the race. We know that this is a weakness. and I also know that we are flat out working on it to try and fix it because I really feel like it's quite a big performance limitation for us at the moment."
Despite the problems, there is no reason to panic at Red Bull, says Vertappen: "I mean, I think we are all very focused. We are still doing a lot of things right. But for whatever reason, we're not in that same flow as we had last year where everything just seemed to be going really well for us at most places with no reliability issues. I don't know, for whatever reason, it's a little bit more difficult this year."
The championship leader continued: "Some things are a bit hard to explain as well. Sometimes it almost feels like you're a bit in a spiral and it maybe takes a bit of time to get out of it. But yeah, we are, for sure, on top of everything. Of course, there are always things that you can do better, but yeah, we'll come out of this week and analyse everything again and try to improve."
Verstappen enjoys more exciting races
That the competition has moved closer makes for exciting races. Verstappen does enjoy this: "It's definitely more challenging. And I think also with, of course, how the race was today, it was very exciting in general. And it definitely keeps us on our toes. We cannot afford to make mistakes or tiny mistakes anymore. So, yeah, every little detail matters now."
