Sainz gives update on future transfer: 'Will do it soon'
Carlos Sainz is currently the biggest name available on the transfer market, with teams including Williams and Sauber (soon-to-become Audi) being after his signature. The Spanish driver now has explained where things stand in terms of signing a contract for 2025.
Because Lewis Hamilton is set to become a Ferrari driver from 2025 onwards, Carlos Sainz now has to look for a new team from the upcoming year onwards. The Spaniard currently is the highest priority for many teams at the moment, as for example, James Vowles is pushing hard to make the current Ferrari driver Alexander Albon's new teammate. "I think it's an easy decision to come here," the British team principal has earlier declared back at the press conference of the Canadian Grand Prix, trying to promote Williams to the driver from Madrid. Audi are also after his signature to pair him up with Nico Hulkenberg to complete their line-up for the new project.
Talking to GPblog among others in Canada, Sainz has said that: "Whenever I have something to say or something to announce, you guys will be the first ones to know and I'll be here talking about it." Now, the three-time Grand Prix winner has given a new update about his situation.
'I could sign tomorrow if I wanted'
"I have my options on the table ready to make a decision, and the decision cannot be brought forward but I am going to make it very soon because I already want to get it out of the way," Sainz explained on El Hormiguero, a Spanish TV show.
"There is not one, there are several," Sainz continued about his options. "All the teams that have not signed their drivers for next year, I am on their list and they have offered me a contract and I can sign with them tomorrow. But, I'm not going to sign tomorrow and I'm going to take it a little calmly and decide soon," the Spaniard explained.
As a result, with being the most in-demand driver without a seat for 2025, Sainz is in control of his destiny at least in terms of the remaining options with midfield teams, as Mercedes are tipped to confirm the promotion of Andrea Kimi Antonelli for 2025 from Formula 2.
