Red Bull Racing announced Sergio Perez's contract extension in Canada. But the Mexican was unable to crown the happy news with a fine result at the Montreal Grand Prix. He retired after 53 laps due to a badly damaged rear wing. Nevertheless, the veteran driver is hoping for a better performance in Barcelona.

Perez is not in great form at the moment, but he is working hard to turn the tide. "We have been working very hard at the factory over the past few days. There we got a better picture of things. The margins are so small in Formula 1, if anything is not right...," the Red Bull racing driver said ahead of the Grand Prix weekend in Spain.

Positive Perez in Barcelona

The six-time Grand Prix winner hopes to put the lesser series of results behind him in Barcelona. "It's great to be here in Barcelona. If I can have a good race, I know I can get my momentum back."

Despite Perez's positive attitude, he does have to deal with a three-place grid penalty following what happened in Canada. But Perez remains unabatedly optimistic when asked about it. "We will think of something with the strategy on Sunday, but we need a strong qualifying first to start at the front."
