Carlos Sainz, like Max Verstappen, will drive with a new engine in the Spanish Grand Prix, but the Ferrari driver reported power problems early in the first free practice session. This happened after teammate Charles Leclerc retired at the previous race due in Canada to engine problems.

The Italian team will hope that last weekend's nightmare will not be repeated in Spain. At the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, the Monegasque was hit by engine problems early on, losing a lot of time and eventually retiring more than a lap behind the leaders.

In Spain, Ferrari hopes to prevent the problem from happening again. Not long after the start of the first free practice, however, Sainz reported a loss of power, even though he had been given a new engine for his home race. For now, the problem seems to be solved by some changes in the settings of Sainz's Ferrari.
