Lando Norris proved fastest during the first free practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix. He set a fast lap of 1:14.288 seconds. Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz were second and third respectively. The session was marked by a brief red flag midway through practice.

Free practice for the Barcelona Grand Prix got off to a flawless start. Max Verstappen quickly grabbed the fastest time. There was a brief red flag due to a piece of Fernando Alonso's front wing. This came off the car and lay on the racing line of the track.


The Ferrari drivers were not happy with the car. According to Leclerc, the car was terrible. Oliver Bearman got into another Haas, this time Nico Hulkenberg's car. The young Briton finished 19th.


All drivers started the session on hard or medium tyres. The session ended with the drivers on soft tyres.
