Wolff fears FIA investigation after joking with Vasseur
- Cas van de Kleut
Frederic Vasseur has been Ferrari's team boss since the start of 2023. Since his arrival, calm seems to have returned within the Scuderia. Toto Wolff talks on Friday about his bond with the Frenchman, with whom he has had a rivalry since 2023. But the two have been friends for a long time, and that's shown in the exchange.
Whereas before there were a lot of pit stops going wrong, strategic mistakes being made and turmoil within Ferrari, that is not the case these days. Vasseur seems to have got things back on track, allowing the Italian team to look forward.
Wolff jokes with Vasseur
Wolff and Vasseur are friends of each other. Yet the Austrian team boss says: "(he’s a) fucker. I can’t say that! Apologies, I’m going to be summoned! been friends since the early 2000s when he was just setting up his Formula 3 team, and I was looking after a few of his young drivers. And we've gone back a long way. And the friendship is tight, and the trust is tight. And I think it's a very important thing."
Wolff continued: "We have a more intense rivalry. So there are a few things maybe which we don't share with each other anymore. We're both emotional people. So sometimes those emotions can boil up. But we understand each other that we just have to do the best for our teams. And that may sometimes go against the other team. But that is the nature of the job."
Finally, the Mercedes team boss says: "I think it would be wrong for me and patronizing for me to say, whether the job is good or not. From the outside, what I see is the team seems to be much more structured, no bulls*** approach, and Fred has always been that. you can't tell him a story because he's going to see through it. And there's a reason why the team has started winning races. and competing for a Constructor and a Driver World Championship."
