Wolff hits out at brainless conspiracy theorists

Toto Wolff has hit out at conspiracy theorists who suggested Mercedes were sabotaging Lewis Hamilton because of his impending move to Ferrari for the 2025 Formula 1 season. The seven-time World Champion secured his first podium of the season with the help of a smart strategy from the Mercedes team.

Mercedes and Hamilton formed one of the most successful partnerships Formula 1 has ever seen. Between 2014 and 2020, Hamilton won all but one Drivers World Championship, with his then-teammate Nico Rosberg winning the other in 2016. Hamilton has decided to leave Mercedes at the end of 2024 to take a chance at Ferrari.

Since then, Hamilton has fallen behind his teammate George Russell. The younger Brit is currently dominating the qualifying duel, which raised suspicions among fans on social media. This ended up going so far that an anonymous email claiming Mercedes were sabotaging Hamilton was sent to staff members. The team boss had called the police to investigate the situation. Ahead of the Grand Prix in Spain, Wolff explained why Mercedes would never opt to sabotage Hamilton during the remaining races in their partnership and he reiterated his point in a sharper manner after.

Wolff sees Hamilton answer brainless conspiracy theorists

"I have zero respect for conspiracy theorists because they have no brains. We want a car that wins races and championships and if someone doesn't get that, shouldn’t be watching another sport," Wolff said in Spain.

Hamilton went on to have his best weekend of the season, finishing on the podium for the first time. "It's good to see that he has a great weekend because it has been a while. The strategy worked for him today, and that was in his favour. So I'm happy that we have that podium for him."
