Horner happy that Verstappen is concerned about Red Bull's performance

Verstappen has been expressing increasing concerns about the performance of his RB20 in recent weeks. Verstappen often walks away with victory after all, but it is certainly not easy. Demanding more from his team, Verstappen stated after qualifying on Saturday that things will go wrong at some point if he has to drive at 101% percent every time.

"He's fantastic under pressure, he's always been fantastic and last year was a unicorn, now he's a more normal human being. I mean it was a big year where it was, it's not normal to win all the races all the time. And we're having to fight very, very hard for them. And Max is making a key difference," Horner stated after the race.

Why Verstappen doesn't need to worry

"But we know where we need to improve, we're getting a better understanding of where our strengths and weaknesses are. We're doing enough at the moment to keep growing that championship lead."

Verstappen's concerns are thus somewhat brushed aside by Horner. Yes, there is indeed work to be done on the car, but for now, the team is scoring the most points. In Spain, they scored more points than all their rivals, while in Canada, they 'only' conceded three points to McLaren and Mercedes.

According to Horner, Verstappen, therefore, has nothing to worry about. "He's a driver. He's hungry. He wants to win. He hates losing. That's as he should be. He's pushing the team. He pushes himself. He just wants to go faster. And he's got to go faster. And any driver of his calibre that goes, oh, that's okay, doesn't exist. So it's his inner drive and hunger for performance that he demands also from the team. He just wants to go quicker," Horner concluded.
