It was not one contract extension in doubt, but it is now official: Lance Stroll will remain at Aston Martin, on a multi-year deal. Even though the British team are going through a rough patch in 2024, the Canadian is excited for the future, and hopes he will be able to drive a car designed by Adrian Newey.

Aston Martin are rumoured to be very much interested in signing Adrian Newey. Lance Stroll himself would like that a lot, he told GPblog and others in Austria. "That would be pretty f****** awesome. He's the GOAT [greatest of all time]. He's got more championships than anyone in this paddock. He's someone that everyone would love to have in their team colours. I don't think anyone would say no to having Adrian on board, that's for sure."

Answering GPblog's question, Stroll wouldn't be surprised if the Briton would choose to sign with Aston Martin. "No [I wouldn't be surprised]. Like I said already in this session, we have a super exciting wind tunnel being built, very exciting campus. All the tools that a team wants and needs to succeed to be really, really competitive. I think it's attractive for anyone in Formula One to be a part of it."

Stroll added: "It’s really just about the facility we're building, the goals that we have to get to the front in the future. And the tools. We have this incredible factory at Silverstone. This wind tunnel is being built is very exciting for everyone. The wind tunnel will be ready in a few months. 26 is a big opportunity for all the teams. A completely new set of regulations. A regulation change is always an exciting opportunity for teams to try and come up with something special."

Would Newey choose Aston Martin over Ferrari?

Stroll believes it is a possibility that Newey will eventually choose his team over the Italians. "You've got to ask Adrian that question. But I think, like I already said, with the factory and the wind tunnel and all those things."

"He's got the vision and the passion. He wants to be up in the front. That's what he's given everyone at Silverstone…an opportunity to do that. And tools to do that. Lawrence is putting his heart and passion and ambition into the project. He’s given everyone at Silverstone all the tools to bring something special to the racetrack," Stroll concluded.
