Verstappen laughed at by Marko after Dutch Euro defeat: 'Focus on F1'
The Dutch national team lost in their last Euros group stage game, and it's safe to say Max Verstappen isn't happy about it. Long-time supporter and Red Bull advisor, Helmut Marko, has stressed to the three-time world champion that he would be better off worrying about what's happening on track.
In Spain, Verstappen was confident that the Netherlands would go through to the next round of the European championship. They qualified but lost to Austria in their last group game 3-2. Verstappen was already asked the question in the press conference about the tournament itself and also revealed what Marko, who is Austrian, said to him after the game.
Marko tells Verstappen to focus on F1
"Of course, I had said the Netherlands was going to win," Verstappen revealed to GPblog and others in Spielberg. "He said (Marko) it turns out you are not a football expert. Just concentrate on Formula 1."
There is a chance that the Netherlands will face Austria again in the quarterfinals. To do so, the Netherlands must win against Romania and Austria must beat Turkey in the round of 16. ''Yes, that would be something. Then I do hope they will run a bit harder'', Verstappen jokes about the Dutch team's performance.
The team itself is also watching the European Championship a lot, according to Verstappen: ''Most of it is English, of course, and that obviously interests me a little less in terms of football, but with Helmut and so on, of course, you talk about it. I have to say, they (Austria) also just played very well. You can't say anything about that,'' Verstappen concluded his analysis.
