Perez: It 'would look different' without Verstappen as Red Bull teammate
Sergio Perez thinks people would have looked at his performances differently if someone else had been his Red Bull teammate. The Mexican believes that Max Verstappen's level is particularly high and hard to match, but is still a great challenge.
Perez did not make a good impression for the fourth race weekend in a row. After zero points in Canada and Monaco, Perez scored points again in Spain, but it was only four after finishing eighth. The Mexican is struggling to match his teammate, but that is due to a string of poor performances.
Perez cannot match Verstappen
"Max is at a very high level at the moment. He's delivering. He's at his best. He's a driver that is driving on top form compared to all the others. So definitely, if you had a different teammate, things would look different. But it's a great challenge to have. I mean, he's been my teammate for the last four seasons. So it's a great challenge." Perez said in Austria.
According to Toto Wolff, Max Verstappen is currently making Red Bull's RB20 look better than it actually is. When asked if Perez also thinks McLaren has a better car at the moment, Verstappen's teammate responded: "I think McLaren has been the most solid car in the last few races in different track layouts. They've been the most competitive. But like I said, you're talking about small margins. So I think if we are able to maximise our package, that will be better. Things will look better for us. So I mean, I know there is a long year ahead. So we just have to keep our head down."
