The stewards were busy after qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix. Not because of many track limits violations like last year, but for several incidents that occurred during qualifying at the Red Bull Ring. Nico Hulkenberg alone had to answer for two incidents, but the Haas driver need not fear a penalty.

Hulkenberg not penalised for incidents in Austria

Hulkenberg had to answer to the FIA stewards for two different incidents in the pit lane. In both cases, the German merged when pulling away when there was actually no place to do so. However, the stewards took into consideration that the US Formula 1 team's garage is located at the very end of the pit lane, making it extremely difficult to get between the slow-moving cars.

In one case, the stewards decided not to take action; in the other, Haas received a reprimand. According to the stewards, there was a place to insert, but it disappeared because other F1 cars formed a queue in front of the pit lane exit. This is seen as extenuating circumstances, which is why the stewards are sticking with a slap on the wrist.
