Horner saw crash between Verstappen and Norris coming: 'Very frustrating'
- Estéban den Toom
Christian Horner, team boss of Red Bull Racing, thought the crash of Lando Norris and Max Verstappen was coming. The two drivers also fought for the race lead in recent Grands Prix, but this time things went wrong. The McLaren driver and the Red Bull driver punctured their tyres in a clash.
Horner is not surprised by the crash between the two friends off the track. "I think it's inevitable with how close they've been racing in the last few weeks. It's a shame, I mean, Lando was already on four strikes, I think he was probably going to get a five second penalty anyway. It was a racing incident, I thought it was a bit harsh that Max got a ten-second penalty. His race had already been damaged by the puncture that he picked up, so very, very frustrating," the Red Bull team boss explained.
Horner happy with Red Bull's points
Despite Verstappen's drop, Red Bull still scored quite a few points for the constructors' World Championship standings. "But on a day that neither of his main opponents scored, we still took home ten points from the drivers, sixteen from the constructors, and I think McLaren only gained two points out of that," Horner continued.
Verstappen received a 10-second penalty for his action while defending the lead position. Horner said above that the penalty was a bit on the harsh side, but Verstappen also expressed his opinion on the incident. Not only did Verstappen receive a time penalty, he also received two penalty points on his super licence.
