Lewis Hamilton started the Austrian Grand Prix excellently, was even lying third for a while, but eventually dropped back. The seven-time world champion also suffered damage in the opening stages, which ultimately prevented him from competing for the podium. However, he is happy for his team, which won for the first time since Brazil 2022.

"Congratulations to George and the team. Everyone at Brackley and Brixworth really deserves this result. They have worked so hard to bring performance to the car and we are starting to get us closer and closer to the very front. We put in so much effort so to get a result like this is a well-deserved reward for everyone's efforts."

Hamilton's drought still had no end. The Briton last won in Saudi Arabia in 2021. Since that particular race in December that year, he did get on pole position once more. That was in 2023 in Hungary, but he failed to convert that first starting spot into a win.

Podium too much

In Austria, there was no chance of a podium finish, although he did come close with a fourth place due to Max Verstappen dropping out and Lando Norris dropping out. "From my side, it wasn't the best weekend. I sustained some damage early on and that caused problems in my race."

"From my side, it wasn't the cleanest weekend. I picked up some damage early on and that compromised my race, unfortunately. We now look ahead to Silverstone. It is always such a special weekend, and I can't wait to see all the fans there. It is a track that should hopefully suit us a little better than here in Austria so let's see what we can do.," said the Briton, who will be driving on home soil next weekend at Silverstone.
