Will Verstappen and Norris recive a poor rating after Austrian GP incident?

Russell: 9

George Russell has victory fall onto his lap, but in F1 you have to be there to take advantage of incidents. Russell was behind the battling duo all this weekend and was therefore the rightful winner when the two crashed out.

Piastri: 8

Oscar Piastri had some bad luck in qualifying by going just over the track limits, losing P3. However, Piastri impressed during the Grand Prix with brilliant overtaking on the outside of turn six. The Aussie's move on Sainz for second place was particularly phenomenal.

Sainz: 7

Carlos Sainz had a solid weekend in Austria. The Spaniard benefited from the crash between Norris and Verstappen and has been the better of the two Ferraris all weekend.

Hamilton: 6

Lewis Hamilton once again saw his teammate take victory at the very moment Mercedes was in a position to win. Hamilton did not underperform, but will still be frustrated that he has still not won a race since the 2021 Saudi Arabia Grand Prix.

Verstappen: 6

Normally, a driver gets a poor grade if he finishes another driver's race and thus also gets himself into trouble. In this case, no. Verstappen did not get the most out of his RB20 on Sunday due to the collision with Norris, but the incident was minimal and mostly clumsy. For that, Verstappen gets a slight deduction, but a very low grade would be out of place on a weekend where the Dutchman secured pole and the sprint race victory.

Hulkenberg: 7

Nico Hulkenberg drove to his best result this season, even keeping a Red Bull behind. Sixth place is a great result for Hulkenberg and also for the Haas team.

Perez: 4

Even as Verstappen crashes, has to go to the pits with a puncture and gets a 10-second time penalty, Sergio Perez finishes behind his teammate yet again. Yes, the Mexican had damage to his car, but that was his own fault. Firstly by qualifying badly and secondly by duelling too hard with Oscar Piastri in the early stages.

Magnussen: 6

Kevin Magnussen drove a neat weekend in Spielberg. The Dane was the slower of the two Haas drivers in the race, but still crossed the finish line in a neat eighth place.

Ricciardo: 7

Finally points again for Daniel Ricciardo and the Australian could use them. With Liam Lawson already warming up for his seat, it is good that Ricciardo was better than his teammate for another weekend.

Gasly: 7

Pierre Gasly picks up another point for Alpine, after a fierce battle with his teammate. This time, the man who has a longer deal with Alpine came out on top.

Leclerc: 5

Charles Leclerc had a disastrous weekend with Ferrari in Austria. Sprint qualifying was not good for the Monegasque and in the races Leclerc was involved in too many incidents. As a result, he lost the duel to his teammate this weekend.

Ocon: 6

Esteban Ocon was again in a fierce battle with his teammate. After a good qualifying, the Frenchman lost the internal duel at Alpine this time.

Stroll: 6

It was a neat performance from Lance Stroll in Austria. Worse than his teammate in qualifying, but the best of the two Aston Martins in the race.

Tsunoda: 5

Yuki Tsunoda experienced a colourless weekend for Visa Cash App RB. The Japanese could not match Ricciardo and therefore missed out on important points for the team.

Albon: 6

Alexander Albon is pulling out all the stops, but at the moment that's not much pace at Williams.

Bottas: 6

Valtteri Bottas drove an okay weekend for Stake Sauber. The Finn was better than his teammate, but he couldn't make much of an impression.

Zhou: 5

Guanyu Zhou has been unable to beat his teammate in qualifying or the race for several weekends in a row now. In Austria, unfortunately, it was no different.

Alonso: 5

Fernando Alonso has completely lost it for a few weeks now. In Austria, he was still faster than Stroll in qualifying, but in the race, Alonso again made a poor impression resulting in his incident and accompanying penalty.

Sargeant: 6

Logan Sargeant was even ahead of his teammate in sprint qualifying and the sprint race, but in qualifying and the race the usual ranking was restored. This weekend, however, the American was not far off his teammate, which is a positive development.

Norris: 6

Lando Norris called himself an amateur after the sprint race and rightly so. If you overtake Verstappen, you should never leave the door open like that again. In the race, Norris was vicious, perhaps a little too much so. There was little the Brit could do about the crash with Verstappen, he is allowed to sit there and attack Max. However, given the track limits time penalty he received, it was questionable whether he could have won the race at all.
